Italian club Cagliari have reportedly offered a contract to former Hornets captain Manuel Almunia.

The Spanish goalkeeper spent two seasons at Vicarage Road but was released at the end of the previous campaign when his contract expired.

The 37-year-old hasn't been linked with any clubs since leaving Watford but could make the switch to Italy.

New Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini is reported as saying the club will sign a goalkeeper with Champions League experience tomorrow.

Almunia played in the competition, and the final, during his spell at Arsenal.

I think when referring to goalkeepers it's traditional to say he has big gloves to fill.

Gomes will do just fine for us and sure he will prove a better keeper in no time!

Admittedly with a certain amount of hindsight and being absolutely ruthless Almunia and Cassetti should have been released at the end of 2012/13. A good man but last season he just didn't seem right mentally.
