Watford-born Steven Finn has been left out the England team to face India in the fourth test at Old Trafford despite earning a re-call to the side earlier this week.

The 25-year-old Middlesex bowler was included in England's 13-man squad for the fourth test at Old Trafford - which begins this morning - following Liam Plunkett's withdrawal due to injury.

Finn has not been part of the England test team for 13 months, having been sent home from England's disastrous winter Ashes Tour after being deemed 'unselectable' due to issues with his bowling action.

The 6ft 7in fast bowler's last test appearance for England came in July 2013 as England won the summer Ashes series on home soil.

Since returning from Australia in January, Finn has excelled for Middlesex, taking 44 wickets in Division One of the County Championship to date.

England are currently tied with Australia after three tests.

Meanwhile, Finn has agreed a new three-year deal with Middlesex, which will take him through until the end of 2017 domestic season.

Commenting on his new deal, Finn said: "I am delighted to have signed three more years at the club I have spent my whole career with as a professional cricketer. I look forward to continuing to build on the club's status as a strong division one side and hopefully helping to bring success to the county over years to come.

"Needless to say I am hugely indebted to the club and the coaching structure, particularly Richard Johnson, in helping me develop in recent times. I couldn't think of anywhere else I would want to play my cricket."

Finn has claimed 44 wickets in the County Championship this season.
