After watching Troy Deeney and Matej Vydra play a key role in Watford’s 3-0 win against Bolton Wanderers this afternoon, Trotters boss Dougie Freedman admitted the Hornets have the best two strikers in the Championship.

Deeney opened the scoring at Vicarage Road with a deft finish over Andy Lonergan and Vydra added the second soon after.

The Czech Republic international skipped past Tim Ream and fired through the legs of the Bolton goalkeeper.

Fernando Forestieri grabbed a late third goal for Watford who opened their league campaign in style.

Freedman believes the difference between the two sides at Vicarage Road was the Golden Boys’ clinical strikers.

He said: “Very uncharacteristic lapses in concentration presented them with two opportunities and when you’re dealing with the best two strikers in the division you can’t do that, so that’s the real disappointment.”

Bolton were poor in the first half and barely created a chance. The visitors improved in the second period but Watford were in control and eased to a comfortable victory.

Freedman continued: “In the second half I thought we came out and gave it a right good go. We created opportunities but we didn’t take them.

“That was the difference today in a game with two very top strikers. Surprisingly for me, they didn’t have to work too hard to get their opportunities and that’s what disappointing.”

Without Anya, Fabbrini, Odion Ighalo, Murray or Battocchio even being in the match day squad let alone the team.. The strength in depth of this watfordfc team is amazing...

Oh no Dougie I am afraid that was not the only difference. Your team was virtually outplayed in most positions on the pitch. Paredes roasted your right flank players throughout the game and Tozser snuffed out most of your attacks through the centre. Abdi was a constant threat when coming forward. This was a very poor performance by a Bolton side who will play better on other days. Maybe a better description would have been. "We won't come up against other teams like Watford every day".

I wonder if there's any way that Beppe can get Deeney, Vydra and Forestieri working together so that they start together.I know arguments before have been that Fernando and Matej are too similar to start together, but with all three on at the same time, our front line would be the best in the division by a country mile.
