Beppe Sannino only 70 per cent happy despite Watford's 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers

A 3-0 victory on the opening day of the season would delighted most managers but Beppe Sannino claimed he was only 70 per cent happy following Watford’s win over Bolton Wanderers.

The Hornets excelled during a first-half they dominated at Vicarage Road and went into the break two goals to the good.

The second half was more even and Bolton applied pressure but it was the Golden Boys who scored the only other goal in the game.

“I’m 70 per cent happy,” Sannino stated after the contest. “For us the result was important but we can improve. But we need more matches.”

“It was a very good performance; where we passed the ball well short and passed well long,” Sannino added.

“Until (Juan Carlos) Paredes got injured [with 18 minutes to go], we were fit and we were balanced on the pitch. In the second half, the players were tired and we dropped more. In the last 15 minutes Bolton created situations when [goalkeeper] Heurelho Gomes was fantastic.”

Paredes went down with cramp on 72 minutes but attempted to carry on after treatment.

Daniel Pudil subsequently went off with the Hornets’ final substitution, as Lloyd Dyer came on, only for Paredes to then spend the rest of the contest hobbling around.

When Sannino was asked if he should have taken Paredes off, he replied: “When I pick players, I always think forward. It was 2-0 and Bolton were pressing our midfield and I wanted balance on the pitch. With Paredes, it was important he stayed on the pitch [due to the balance].”

Ecuadorian full-back Paredes joined the Hornets in the summer from Barcelona Sporting Club, via sister club Granada, and today was his first outing for the Golden Boys after only receiving international clearance on Tuesday.

Sannino added: “I am happy because the supporters today saw a player who was on the line. We watched TV footage of Paredes but today we saw someone who could become a big player.”

Great words from the Bepster there. Whatever he said and however he communicated with the team, it's obvious his words and tactics got through to them without issue which is a bonus.

There will be ups and downs this season.. can't wait to see what happens next.

How does a player "hobbling around" provide balance? Had Bolton scored as they could and perhaps should have, it could well have been two points thrown away, as we saw so often last season. I thought Dyer could play on either wing?

Good start to the season, but Bolton were poor for most of game. Always felt if we needed another goal, we could have gone through the gears.

Delighted Gomes demonstrated what made him so popular at PSV. Good saves, great distribution particularly the long throws.

maybe the way Watford played made Bolton look poor. Dont underestimate the work with and without the ball today

Don't think that's 7 wins in a row. Maybe 7 unbeaten? Somebody posted a stat earlier on Twitter suggesting that we had won 3 and drawn 1 in our last 4 openers but they could be wrong. Sod it....who cares! 3 points and a good start. Great to have deeney, vydra and fessi off the mark. Ighalo and fessi to start against Stevenage?

It was a good performance but we still kept backing off at times and that's when Bolton created there chances.SB needed to freshen it up a bit earlier cos Vydra was hobbling for 10 mins before Forestieri came on.Parades was Excellent, linked up well, was very impressed with him.On another day Abdi would have converted a couple, and a 5-0 scoreline would not have looked out of place, although Gomez made 2 very good saves. Not sure about Tamas yet, solid, but passing wayward at times. Will Anya get back in the side after Parades performance.Norwich will be a hard test.

Think you're bang on
Should not sit back as it costs us dearly bed better teams will punish us.
But so many positives and we looked good all round.
If Anya is chosen over Paredes on that showing it will be an Act of madness.
Good atmosphere and That swagger of two seasons ago looks to be back.
I've had doubts on Sannino but would be very happy to be wrong on that... Norwich might tell us a bit more about ourselves.
Bring it on
And let's have ya!

A very good performance for the opening game. Bit concerned that Beppe says the players were tired in the second half but hopefully with a settled side fitness should improve.
It's a team game but must give special mention to Paredes; look some player.
Whilst looking for a settled team in the league I can see changes for the Capital Cup; against Stevenage how about:
Bond
Doyley; Hoban; Cathcart or Doherty

Anya; Andrews; Bottochio; Munari; Dyer

Ranegie; Foresteri

Even that leaves Murray and Ighalo looking for game time.

Some squad although I would be happier with a different back up keeper.

Goes to show the strength of the squad.
