Newly-promoted Watford entertained recently relegated Queens Park Rangers at Vicarage Road in a second division fixture.

The game was to provide Watford's first home defeat at this level, but provided what remains the club's highest ever league gate of 27,968.

Gosh I suddenly feel older, is it really 45 years ago?

I was on the Vicarage Road terrace amongst 'the flat caps' with a constant smell of Old Holborn wafting over us. The atmosphere was positively crackling and it was only the result that was disappointing.
