The last time Watford took on Huddersfield Town Beppe Sannino says he was embarrassed. It’s that feeling the Hornets head coach hopes will motivate his players against the Terriers tomorrow.

At Vicarage Road on the final day of last season, the Golden Boys were beaten 4-1 by Huddersfield – it was an abject display from Sannino’s team devoid of heart and desire.

“Huddersfield is a bad memory. That match, in front of our own fans, was very disappointing,” Sannino said yesterday.

“I did the walk around the pitch after that match and I was embarrassed. I remember that situation.

“Yes, we will use it as motivation and I would like to give all my players and the Watford supporters joy.”

In their two league matches at Vicarage Road this season Watford have been in free-scoring form. Seven goals have been struck and only one has been conceded.

However, in the League Cup on Tuesday evening, the Hornets were disappointing and suffered a 2-1 defeat against Doncaster Rovers.

Sannino made nine changes to his side for that fixture but said tomorrow’s starting XI will be similar to the one which began the 4-1 victory against Leeds United on Saturday.

The Hornets head coach has no fresh injury concerns. Craig Cathcart is back in training but isn’t yet fit enough for a return to the first team following his knee problem.

Young strikers Uche Ikpeazu and Bernard Mensah are still recovering from long-term injuries and are unavailable for selection.

Joel Ekstrand could return to the squad after serving the final match of his three-game suspension against Rotherham.

Huddersfield go into the game without a manager but have taken four points from their last two league matches.

Sannino believes his squad have forgotten the disappointment of exiting the League Cup in midweek and says his players are fully focused on the Terriers.

“For us that (Tuesday) was an angry night,” he said. “In our head we will forget that defeat but we must also remember because we must play better.

“Every match for me is very important and every training session is very important. Now, we are only thinking about winning the Huddersfield match and I want to give the fans a great spectacle on the pitch because these fans are excellent for us at home or away.”

Sannino has spoken passionately on several occasions about the Hornets supporters and his admiration for the Watford fans remains undiminished.

He explained: “I love English football and, more than anything, I love Saturdays.

“There is nothing more beautiful on a match-day at Vicarage Road than seeing all the family together coming to support the team in their heart, Watford.”

Ok fair comment, he got his maths wrong. But is that the only thing you can say about the article? Our display against Hudderfield on the final day of last season was shameful. It is something the players owe us big time tomorrow. So Beppe is right in pointing out what happened and expecting the players to put in a performance. Many of us may have our doubts about his ability to deliver promotion, but there is no question about his honesty when facing up to bad performances. Onwards and upwards!

What can I say Surbiton.... I am an accountant (for my sins) and I spot these things. No, seriously, I agree with your post about the Huddersfield game last season - it was not the best way to send your supporters home at the end of a season where in most peoples eyes we underachieved after a fairly decent start to the campaign.

Some players, e.g. Forestieri, show passion and commitment throughout a game. Others need the stick or the carrot. It is Beppe's job to motivate the players - not memories of a past abject performance in which several of the team were not playing. He has to get all of the players fired up and passionate about beating Huddersfield and the other 22 clubs in the Championship!!

The news of TD9's new contract should create a nice buzz around the place tomorrow. Also with the defeat at the end of last season still fresh in the mind, I can only see this going one way; a convincing hornets win.
Dyer has proven his point with his celebration & Beppe has proven his by dropping him - this may be against popular oppinion but I would like to see him start tomorrow. He's a great player so I would like this dressing room nonsence put to bed & Dyer consolidating his position in the starting 11.
Fessi must play alongside Deeney!! If he's dropped I'll be very dissapointed.
Jury's out on McGugan...

Good comeback Stewbyhorn1 - that's what I like to see - a bit of creative accounting. Using a footballing analogy - you have been thinking outside the box!

Let's not be in the position of negative posts Sat night.

Beppe ffs get the tactics right. No more experimenting. HTFC mugged Reading out of 3 points at the MadStad - let's not assume it will all fall into place.

I would be happy with a 6-0 win but it has to be earned.
