With both the Hornets and Leeds United interested in appointing Oscar Garcia as head coach, our sister paper The Argus says the Spaniard is leaning towards joining Watford.

We reported yesterday that Garcia was one of three different men the Golden Boys were speaking to about the vacant head coach position following Beppe Sannino’s resignation last night.

And Watford are believed to be one of three clubs interested in hiring Garcia, who spent last season in charge at Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, The Argus reports he is currently leaning towards joining the Hornets and that his family is happy to move to the London area.

Garcia began his coaching career in 2009 as part of former Barcelona manager Johan Cruyff’s staff on the Catalonia national side.

He then spent two years coaching in Barcelona’s Academy before taking the role as head coach at Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2012.

He spent one season with the Israeli club but it was a successful one as he guided the side to the league title.

However, he resigned at the end of the campaign, citing personal reasons for his departure.

His success in Israel caught the attention of Championship club Brighton and they appointed Garcia as head coach in June last year.

He spent one season with the Seasiders. They finished sixth in the league and reached the play-offs. But they were beaten in the semi-finals by Derby County and the Spaniard resigned on May 12.

He rejoined Maccabi again at the start of June but his second spell with the club lasted less than three months as he resigned once more on Tuesday.

The club stated Garcia’s departure was down to the security situation in Israel.

Reading the comments from Brighton fans he seems to be highly regarded. However, if the decision to replace BS was discussed by the Pozzo's back in the summer, you have to think they would have someone lined up already.

Exactly, why would anyone want to be involved with Leeds United!!!

Garcia has done well to date so perhaps it would be good for an already experienced championship manager to join the Hornets..Sign the man quickly before Cellino gets him!

maybe it was and this is the guy they wanted, and contractual matters delayed things? Would have been even worse to replace BS in the summer with an Interim Manager if they new OG would be available a moth in to the season?

Would be useful to get some feedback on how well this guy was received at Brighton. Did the fans like him ? Was the style of play well received ? largely 4-4-2 I hear ? What was his relationship like with the players ? Was there disappointment or joy when he left amongst players/fans ? What reasons did he give for leaving having come close to promotion ?

A lot of Brighton fans on their forum do not rate him at all, very negative with respect to his miserable persona, failure to communicate with players and fans and negative/defensive tactics, surprising! Perhaps it's sour grapes by them because he left or just the squad he had available. Seems a good choice to me.

Those wishing for him, be careful what you wish for.The Brighton fans have been saying that he gets his teams playing slow, boring football. Not something many of our fans appreciate and certainly not what our players excell at. They also say he likes to grind out 1-0 victories rather than pressing hard for the second or third goal. We have shown that we are unable to do that also.

If he does get the job then I will welcome him and not judge, but I do not expect great things.

Talk of Brighton being too boring, let's be honest they didn't have players like Abdi, Toszer, Fessi, Vydra, Paredes and Deeney amongst their ranks, who showed on Saturday (those on the pitch) that they can hit teams on the break in the 95th minute in clinical fashion, that wouldn't change just because we get a new manager, that kind of move is carried out due to our extensive quality on the pitch.

This is a bit worrying but I would much prefer him to Brian McDermott.

Israel have been at it since Ken Furphy was Watford's player manager so he might be waiting a long time.

If he doesn't play a major role in choosing which players to acquire and has to adhere to the Pozzo methodology in terms of training then I would be surprised if a self confident, experienced , quality coach would want to come here.
I am not not knocking the Pozzo's because they clearly saved our club and therefore are entitled to do as they wish.
Keith Andrews description of Beppe as a hard taskmaster on the pitch and charming off it seems to be a description of the near ideal manager.

The new man has to achieve at least second position finish in the table, keep the players happy even though there are too many of them, adhere to the training methodology, keep us fans happy. Anything less and he would have failed---- good luck to him he will need it I think.
Not sure about Garcia, he seems to change jobs as often as Beppe and I agree with the person that said Poyet had done most of the work for him. at Brighton.

Been described as 'difficult to communicate with', doesn't like losing his young/ improving players when they are at market value (Pozzo model, Deeney aside) and regarded as playing negative football. Seems a strange one.

However, did well to keep that Brighton team in the play-offs and was in contention for both the Southampton and Celtic jobs so must have something about him.

Interesting to look at Galli's Twitter page over the last few days. 3 posts about Watford FC and another saying he is in London. Surely something is happening there??
