Sun Postal Sports beat Oxhey Jets for first time in 12 years on Saturday, securing the local bragging rights with a 2-1 win thanks to Simeon Fearon’s brace.

As a result, Oxhey Jets missed the chance to go top of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division for the first time under manager Wayne Gladdy, who turned out for both clubs during his playing career.

The Jets almost took the lead early on, with only a smart stop from Sun goalkeeper Ross Hampton keeping the scores level.

James Armstrong replied for Sun, testing Oxhey Jets goalkeeper Will Baker with a firm volley from a Steve Noonan knock down.

Three minutes before the break, Sun Postal took the lead which their first-half performance had merited.

Brima Johnson’s pass picked out Fearon down the right-hand side, the forward bursting past his marker before tucking home at the second attempt after Baker blocked his initial effort.

On the stroke of half-time though, the hosts equalised through the prolific Lee Armitt, pictured.

Cutting back inside from the left, the forward manufactured enough room to shoot with his right foot, low into the bottom corner and beyond Hampton for his eighth goal in just five outings.

Nathan Pooley went close twice in the space of three minutes after the break, with Chris McCarthy heading wide from a Pooley corner and substitute Richard Pearce screwing a shot wide.

Armitt nearly put the Jets in front but just failed to connect with an inswinging free-kick – a missed chance for which Gladdy’s side were made to pay when Sun stole the points.

Good link-up play between Pearce and Fearon resulted in the latter shrugging off the attentions of his marker before slotting low past Baker to secure the points for Sun.

Hampton had to be alert to preserve the points for the visitors, who were almost pegged back by Luke Beardsworth, whilst Scott Bonner twice headed over from good positions late on.

Sun Postal face another derby at Kings Langley tomorrow (Saturday), before hosting Cockfosters on Tuesday evening. Sun play host to St Margaretsbury on Tuesday.
