Katie Rowson has resigned as the head coach of Watford Ladies after only six months at the helm.

The former technical director of the British Virgin Islands was appointed to the role in February as part of new-look management set-up at the same time it was announced the Golden Girls had been taken under the “umbrella” of Watford FC.

But Rowson has been unable to markedly improve the Lady Hornets’ fortunes on the pitch and they are currently bottom of Women’s Super League 2 after winning just two of their 11 league games to date.

Her departure was announced in a brief statement on the club’s website. It read: “Watford Ladies FC has reluctantly accepted the resignation of head coach Katie Rowson with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Katie for all her efforts during her time with the club and extends its best wishes for the future.”

Since finishing seventh in the inaugural WSL2 season, the Golden Girls have struggled as the women’s game has continued to develop at pace. They finished bottom of the table in 2015/16 but there was no relegation last season due to the expansion of the league.
