Celebrating our 150th anniversary |

On January 24, 1863, the Watford Observer was published for the first time. The four-page newspaper, called The Watford Observer and General Advertiser for Watford, Bushey and Rickmansworth, was intended to be a paper for the people and by the people. Now, 150 years later, this sentiment holds true. To celebrate a century-and-a-half of bringing the news to the people of Watford and the surrounding areas, we will be hosting events throughout the year and marking the occasion with a special supplement. Also, look out for the commemorative 150th anniversary merchandise that will be available over the course of the year. Of course, the Watford Observer in the 21st Century is very different to the paper founded by the Peacock family in the 19th Century, with this website being one of the more obvious differences in the way we deliver the news today. And this page is where you will be able to keep up to date with all the ways we mark our 150th year. But you can also keep informed via Twitter, by following @Observer_Owl or by Liking us on Facebook. We also want to hear from you. If you are celebrating a landmark anniversary in 2013, then get in touch with us and we’ll let you know how you can join in with our celebrations by emailing editor@watfordobserver.co.uk |
