Two tackle triathlon to raise cash for Leonard Cheshire Disability
Two men from Watford took the plunge, got in gear and laced up their running shoes to take part in Tri Together, an inclusive triathlon event organised by Leonard Cheshire Disability. Stuart Smith, 31, and Samir Konnur, 37, travelled to the Crystal Palace National Sport Centre to take part in the triathlon. Tri Together is an inclusive, short distance triathlon for people of all abilities above 13 years old to take part together, so it is particularly popular with beginners. Tri Together consists of a 400m swim, 15km cycle and 5km run. Stuart finished in one hour and 24 minutes and Samir finished in one hour and 41 minutes. Sarah Ball, Events Manager at Leonard Cheshire Disability, said: “We are delighted that Stuart and Samir took part in Tri Together to raise much-needed funds for Leonard Cheshire Disability. We are very proud of all of them and their support will help us to continue our work with disabled people at local services across the UK.” Samir said: “Tri Together is a fantastic event and I really enjoyed the whole experience, from training, to fundraising to crossing the finish line at the end. Thanks to the Leonard Cheshire Disability events team for their fantastic support and to the crowds for their enthusiastic cheering.” This was the second Tri Together event, following last year’s successful launch. The current World Paratriathlon Champion, Jane Egan, supported the event and also took part. When paratriathlon is included in the Rio 2016 Paralympics, Jane is hoping to compete for team GB. read more
