A CHOIRBOY is set for stardom this Christmas after being named BBC Radio 2 Choirboy Of The Year.

Harry Sever, 11, of Hedgerley, beat off competition from hundreds of other contestants to win the title of the boys' section in the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Choristers Of The Year competition.

Harry, who is already head chorister at Winchester College, sang My Song is Love Unknown and Agnus Dei from Mozart's Coronation Mass to win the prize of £500 for himself and £1,000 for his choir, as well as appearances on BBC radio and television during the next 12 months.

Christopher Tolley, director of chapel music at Winchester College, said: "I am delighted that Harry has been so successful. He is an outstanding singer with a very special musical personality."

Harry sings in the chapel choir at Winchester College as well as playing three instruments and is a keen sportsman with a passion for rugby.

His fellow finalists were cathedral choristers from Wells and Worcester.
