9:50am Tuesday 8th May 2001

KENT'S strategic director of education and libraries has announced he will not seek to extend his contract which ends later this year.

Nick Henwood, 57, said he will vacate his post in October after 11 years at the council.

In 1986 he joined Kent's Local Education Authority as area director, in East Kent. He left for Somerset in 1994, but returned to his current post in 1997.

He said: “This has been a difficult decision for me, but at 57, the end of my contract gives me an opportunity to do some of those things for which there has never been enough time.
