Watford Firefighters will be holding the last ever open day at their Whippendell Road Fire Station on Saturday, September 19, before they move into their new Fire Station in Lower High Street, in November 2009.
In order to commemorate the closing of the fifty year old station, they will have a display of vintage Fire engines and equipment alongside their more modern counterparts.
There will be plenty for children and adults alike, to see and do, including taking part in the ‘Smoke house experience’ by putting on a Firefighters Breathing Apparatus set and taking a tour of the building where they train to deal with major emergencies.
Following a number of fatal car collisions in the Watford area, the main theme of the event will be; ‘Road Safety’. The AA will also be in attendance to provide free safety checks for your car and a demonstration using the ‘Jaws of life’ equipment to cut people out of crashed vehicles will be on display.
Please note: that due to limited parking on site, the free car safety checks will be carried out by booking in with the AA when you arrive and then collecting your car from your parking space – off site - when called and then driving into the Fire Station itself.
