Watford Round Table is pleased to announce that Watford-based Camelot Group plc, operator of The National Lottery, has again signed up as a Gold Sponsor of the Watford 10K Fun Run

Watford Round Table is pleased to announce that Watford-based Camelot Group plc, operator of The National Lottery, has again signed up as a Gold Sponsor of the Watford 10K Fun Run, taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, 3 May 2010.

Watford Round Table is organising the 10K event in Cassiobury Park and Whippendell Woods on behalf of Watford Mencap, the leading learning disability charity, and other local charities.

As well as raising over £24 billion for the Good Causes since the launch of The National Lottery in 1994, which has helped to fund projects the length and breadth of the UK, Camelot is committed to supporting local communities in other ways – from charitable donations and employee volunteering to match-funding charitable activity undertaken by staff.

Daniel Scott, Chairman of Watford Round Table, is delighted to welcome Camelot back as Gold Sponsor. “Camelot sponsored the run for the first time last year and we really appreciate their continued support. They are an important local employer and understand what these charities mean to local people. Last year we raised over £20,000, and we hope to do even better in 2010.”

As a local employer, we are delighted to once again be sponsoring the Watford May Day 10K Fun Run. I’ve seen for myself the work of Watford Mencap, and understand the importance and significance of its work in the local community

Anne Pattberg, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Camelot, said: “As a local employer, we are delighted to once again be sponsoring the Watford May Day 10K Fun Run. I’ve seen for myself the work of Watford Mencap, and understand the importance and significance of its work in the local community.

Watford Mencap works with 500 people with learning disabilities, their families and carers in South West Hertfordshire. Money raised at the 10K Fun Run will support its Children’s Centre in North Watford, which provides summer play schemes, a Saturday Club, after-school clubs, and a youth club for children and young people aged 5-19. Watford Mencap is affiliated to Royal Mencap but receives no funding from them, so local support – both from companies and individuals – is vital.

The Round Table is a fundraising and social organisation for men under 45, and its Watford branch has supported Watford Mencap for more than 50 years.

The race will be launched at Watford Football Club’s home game against Peterborough on March 13th.
