Watford resident Jo Andrews, held a Blooming Great Tea Party at her home to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

On a perfect summer's day, her family and friends enjoyed tea and cakes in the garden and over £175 was raised in aid of the local Marie Curie nursing service.

A Marie Curie Nurse, Bibi Smith (from Watford), attended the party. The raffle was a big hit, and the followings companies donated raffle prizes: Homebase, Boots, J.Sainsbury's (dome roundabout) and Thornton’s.

Jo said: “My daughter Lucia Andrews and her friends collected in all the money. They did a great job. I would like to thank my family and friends for supporting my tea party.”

Jo decided to host a tea party in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care after both her parents received care from the Marie Curie nursing service at home, in the final days of their lives.

Marie Curie Cancer Care offers high quality nursing, totally free, giving terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their loved ones.

Community Fundraiser for Hertfordshire, Jessica Sessions said: “This is a great excuse to get together with friends, old and new, and turn a social get together into something a bit more special.

” It doesn’t take much to pop the kettle on and all money raised will make such a difference to many people long after the party is over. The more money we raise, the more free care Marie Curie Nurses can provide to people with a terminal illness. What better reason to get involved?”

Everyone can join Marie Curie Cancer Care's Blooming Great Tea Party celebrations. For details call 08700 340 040 or visit www.mariecurie.org.uk/teaparty for a free Blooming Great Tea Party fundraising pack.

You can join in the fun by holding your own tea party between before July 12 to raise money for the charity. All tea parties, however big or small, will help more Marie Curie Nurses to provide free care for terminally ill people in their own homes.
