Watford Community Housing Trust has been awarded a top quality mark for recruiting and retaining people with disabilities.
Carolyn Taylor, Jobcentre Plus district manager, awarded the prestigious Disability Symbol to Tina Barnard, chief executive of the Loughton-based organisation, on Wednesday.
The Disability Symbol is given to employers who pledge to meet five commitments on the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of people with disabilities.
Carolyn Taylor said: “Jobcentre Plus is delighted to be presenting the Disability Symbol to Watford Community Housing Trust. The symbol it makes it clear that you welcome applications from people with disabilities and are positive about their abilities. It also shows existing employees that you value their contribution and will treat them fairly should they become disabled.
“It is also worth bearing in mind that by employing disabled people you will be better placed to recognise, develop and deliver goods and services for your disabled customers.”
Tina Barnard, chief executive of Watford Community Housing Trust said: “Our staff are our most important resource and by working with all sections of our community we can continue to provide good quality services to our tenants.
“As a relatively new organisation I am very proud of what we have done to value, involve and empower our staff to provide tenant focused services and this is a symbol of this commitment.”
