On Hope And Getting What You Really Want.

These past two months, two friends and I have been officially homeless. Whilst put up by very loving members of our community, having some place to call home has seemed impossible at times. This was all due to repeated problems with paperwork and estate agents, and we’d been trying to move into this house since before these two months began. Needless to say, there had been a lot of stress, complications and frustrations.

Yesterday was MOVE IN DAY. I have put that in capitals, because I’m not sure you understand how much we were rejoicing! We don’t have a kettle, a microwave or any hot water as yet, but we boiled water in a pan, poured tea into plastic cups and braved the shower this morning. None of this mattered, because we had gone through two months of uncertainty and now had this house.

The thing is, when you get something that you’ve wanted for a really long time it’s beautiful. For us, it was a house. For others it may be something bigger like forgiveness, or for a parent to come home. It would be nice if these things too, could be just dealt with in paperwork. That it would just be a matter of time and then they too would be rejoicing.

Sadly, it doesn’t always happen like that. There are some things that we want that we will never attain. The beauty has to then come from a heart that is restored enough to let go of that one thing and see the goodness in what it does have. Even though all we needed was a house, I would have struggled a lot more as it fell through time and time again, had it not been for my amazing support network, and people who just blessed me with their wisdom and encouraging words.

Hope has to be in place. Otherwise never quite reaching what we truly desire would be heartbreaking. The more I go through life the more I realise that Hope is found in faith and in other people. If I can speak a small amount of encouragement I’ve received over the girls we teach, then it surely has an impact, and however small, an impact still counts.
