On Tuesday, 27th of October, Vice Chairman Councillor Alan Burtenshaw will present Guideposts trainees with IT and NVQ Level 2 certificates for successfully completing their training programmes during a ceremony at the Watford Town Hall.
Guideposts Trust services in South West Hertfordshire offer day support, information and training to people recovering from mental health problems. Saira Afsar, manager at the Guideposts Training Shop, said: “The purpose of the training is to build confidence and independence so that our trainees can gain experience and go back to work.”
For the past several year the shop and the IT course have seen numerous trainees acquiring new life skills. Most of them move to part- and full-time employment or continue volunteer in the community. The training takes place alongside the work of Guideposts’ Day Centre, based in Henry Smith House on Estcourt Road.
Guideposts NVQ and IT training has been set up in response to the growing demands from people recovering from mental health illness for greater opportunities for job training and employment. Chairman Keith Crout, Councillor of the Watford Borough Council, on a recent visit to the Guideposts Shop, said, “It is quite clear a large number of people with mental health problems play a fuller part in society if they are given the right support and the right breaks.”
