On Sunday 29th May 2011 the Lincolnsfields children’s centre charity opened it 1940s experience and education project to the general public.

The lincolnsfields children centre is an education charity based on its site in Bushey Hall drive, bushey based around it seventy bed residential centre and the historical nature of the site, it was US. eighth air force fighter command headquarters during world war 2 and still has most of the original buildings still standing. The charity and it committed volunteers and staff over the past few years have developed the buildings into the site of a living history experience based around the 1940s which it offers to children and young people (in line with the national curriculum)and people with an interest in the period a chance to experience the period by means of our collections of real period items and the chance to deal with people (our volunteers) who were either there or have and interest and expertise in the period. On the last Sunday of the month we open the experience to the general public to promote the project and generate the income to help run the project. On Sunday 29th May over 125 people attended the day enjoying the history corridor (period games, cloths uniforms, displays on house hold items) history of the site and are, 1940s house (bedroom, parlor, sitting room, kitchen, wash are), the military collection, a ride in military car, blitz experience, evacuee school (with talks on the living through the midlands blitz and being a London evacuee), home guard unit, new this month army vet display and our Naffi café, all areas made more interesting by our volunteers who are always ready to pass on their experiences and knowledge. The day was very successful and fun and justified its reputation about being a place to gain lots of knowledge in a friendly environment, where else can you be talking to a young person who has brought his family to see what he so enjoyed on a school stay two weeks before, then an RAF veteran visiting to drop off some RAF items for our collections who under took 20 missions as a tail gunner in a Lancaster during the war, then talking to a lady who has lived though both wars. So thanks to those who organized and ran the day and the people who visited and made the day worth while.

Date of next public opening Sunday 26th June 2011 10.30am to 4pm.
