It was standing room only on the night of Saturday 26th June in the Pump House, Watford at the Watford Mencap celebration concert for ‘Little Martins’.

Marking the end of Learning Disability Week, the sellout concert was organised by residents and workers of Little Martins. This is a project in Bushey enabling Ben Robertson and Luke Gordon, who both have a learning disability, to share their own house and lead the life they choose.

Watford Mencap support worker and professional singer, Ian Kopelowitz, thanked all those who gave their services for free to raise money for Little Martins and give everyone a good night out. Helping on the night were musicians and technicians Adrian McAuley, Paul Robnett, Sandra Hayward, Keith White, Sam Kopelowitz, Firecrest, Steve Brooks, Andrew Nicholson, Ian’s Band and Mick Gordon; James Tetlow (magician), Richard Owen (photographer) and Kevin Weller (video operator). He also thanked Upper Crust of Rickmansworth who generously donated all the food.

Kevin Weller summed up the evening: ‘It was very entertaining; lots of people know Ben and Luke. Everybody put a lot of hard work into the show and it paid off – everybody enjoyed themselves.’ Andrew Stevenson, from Hertford, commented: ‘It shows what can be achieved, and how transformational it can be, in the quality of the lives of Ben and Luke.’ The evening raised £1057, which will be used to enhance Watford Mencap’s work at Little Martins.
