At our meeting on 13 April Brian O’Riordan gave us an illustrated talk which he called “Voyage of the Lobo del Mar”, about the unique wildlife of the Galapagos Islands. He showed pictures of the iguanas, tortoises, boobies, finches and mocking birds, explaining the significance of the islands’ endemic species to Darwin in developing his theory on the origin of species.
The John Hurrell walk on 14 April was joined by Friends of Croxley Common Moor, when among the 34 species seen were whitethroat, willow warbler, common terns and blackcap.
It is now the time of the year for our Dawn Chorus walk. This will take place in Whippendell Woods on Saturday 7 May, meeting at the Grove Mill Lane car park at 4.30am.
Our next indoor meeting will be on Wednesday 11 May at St Thomas Church Centre in Langley Road Watford at 8pm. Chris Ward will talk about the wildlife of “Magical Mallorca”.
Our next local John Hurrell walk will also be in Whippendell Woods on Tuesday 17 May, meeting at the Grove Mill Lane car park at 10am
