Aidy facing captaincy dilemma

Aidy Boothroyd is considering sharing out the captaincy responsibilities between now and the end of the season.

The manager will be forced to name a third captain in as many matches on Saturday after Darius Henderson, the skipper against Plymouth, picked up his tenth booking of the season, ruling him out of the next two games.

With John Eustace also suspended, Jay DeMerit looks certain to claim the armband at Hull on Saturday, particularly as Boothroyd prefers at outfield player to be his captain, but the American defender revealed that might not necessarily be the case.

"Aidy has got a little theory," said DeMerit. "We need 20 captains between now and the end of the season so I think he's planning to give it to someone different every game. I'm not sure if that's what he'll end up doing but he's had a word with me and made sure I'm ok with that. He says I'm still the club captain and that's fair enough.

"I'm no one of those guys who says, This is my captain's armband and this is my team'. This is our team and I just want to be part of this team."

Sitting on the sidelines on Saturday will be the suspended Henderson and DeMerit agreed that the loss of the bruising striker will be a big blow.

"He's a big part of how we tick and it's not going to be easy without him," he said. "But the other guys are more than capable of filling in for him."

we proved in short sharpspells against Stoke last week that we are capable of getting the ball down and playing it about, without Dazza this mite just encourage a bit more of this. Single goal victory at Hull!!

So Aidy wants 20 Captains. Try frontline.afghanista
n.com (I made this up). there are loads out there risking their lives for a very small percentage of what we are paying the Come Dancing/Skating Ballerina's at Watford FC. OK, we have to pay the market price. However, the average Watford Fan earns 30 - 40K per annum (Yoshi Goldenspoon will claim he earns 10 times that). I'd love to see Watfod gain direct promotion. In my opinion, two years ago we went up too early, and Derby County have proved that, this year. I posted on this website a couple of months ago, when we were 9 points clear (remember when we came down under Graham Taylor) first 17 games we were neck and neck with Fulham for 17 games. We then fell away and finished mid-table. Parachute payments are great but missed penalties can cost too much. Aidy, I would love to see you do the business, but please remember we (the fans) were here before you (and we will still be here when you have left for pastures new).

please dont crucify me (pardon the pun) but the last time hendo didnt play i believe we wooped up sheff utd with kabba and ellington both playing blinders in frount of the sky cameras. I personally think hendo`s been off the boil in recent games, in my opinion he is better when he comes off the bench and starts throwing his weight around. At least we now have the strength in depth to deal with our injuries and suspensions, i cant remember the last time we could be missing key players and still getting results. Gotta say its a very very nice feeling indeed! up the orns, Do over Hull and our promotion run will be right back on track!

it is NEVER too early to go up--we would have lost king, young & so on still and be multi-millions worse off! bizarre thinking in my opinion.

at S Utd Kabba did DH role not as well but ok-but if we stick with 442 I would pair CJ & SK at least pace & determination --NE can sit & watch from bench rather than stand & watch from on the pitch!

what a pathetic cheap shot Belgium boy. If you were offered 20 grand a week would you turn it down? No, didnt think so, the current crop of players are not responsible for the current market rate. As for them being ballerinas big boy, try telling that to the face of Jonny Eustace, Dan Shittu etc. Stick to the chocolate Euro Boy.

OK, now's the chance for the front men to prove what I have been saying, that Henderson should not be in starting line up, the fact that he won't even be on the bench for 2 games means that they have 2 chances to prove themselves. The rest will do Darius good and if the forwards score it will fill a big void we have had for the last 4 or 5 games. None of the 3 up front have set the world alight and they need to take the chance that has been thrown at them. Interesting to see TP score at PNE and he has been getting positive reports from there. That could make interesting selection options for Aidy come mid April.

This site needs a new 'captain' too since Sage was driven underground. Perhaps Drinker or Wizzard might take on this demanding role?

Does anyone know why we need to have 20 captains before the end of the season?

Although DH has been probably one of the best players this season, it is clear that our style of play changes suits him rather than the rest of our strikers. If we only have one striker and one style of play we will struggle in the premiership next year so the rest for DH will allow us to focus on a new style and give our other strikers a chance to prove themselves.

Prof Plum and Vor--you are both very kind but as (unlike the true sage) I do not run my own company,it is mostly times like Easter weekend and evenings when I am available.

Bring back Sage I say.

2 away from the most amount of consecutive draws in football league history. Come on your 'orns, you can do it!

Im sure the attack won't score so we just need the defence to their job.

On that note, what a joke this league is that we can draw 7 games in a row and still be in a shout for automatic promotion.

Thanks Vor--less of the tadpole--Wanka may be factually correct though...softy!

Watford are ready to break the bank for Reading striker Leroy Lita.
The People says Watford are planning a club-record £6 million bid for Reading's Lita - if they are promoted!

Yes Lifer, I too was mightily unimpressed, although another in the mould of signing players that have lost their way, get him for the same amount we got for MK I think would be good business, obviously if we sneak a promotional spot which, I have to say I don't think we will!
