Aidy: I hope common sense prevails
John Eustace will be at Soho Square today attempting to prevent his three-match suspension being extended by a further two games.
Eustace has been granted a personal hearing by the Football Association after being slapped with an FA charge of improper conduct after failing to leave the field of play in a timely manner following his controversial dismissal against Stoke.
Eustace will miss the two next games against Hull and Coventry but the Hornets will be desperate to avoid losing their skipper for the matches against Barnsley and West Brom.
"We'll present our case at the hearing," said Aidy Boothroyd. "The evidence would suggest 63 seconds to leave the field is not that long, especially when he was over the other side of the field.
"He was absolutely bemused at the sending off, as we all were, but refs make decisions and you have to get on with it. But I'm not one to moan about it.
"I'm hopeful common sense prevails. We will go and state our case. The people at the FA are not daft and they'll make the correct decision, I'm sure."

Rob Styles continues to leave his impression on this match and our promotion push. His is a referee who believes he is bigger than the game and more important than the players he officiates. When I saw that he was going to ref this game I jus knew there would be problems. How can players give respect to refs like Styles?

Rob Styles ruined a good game of football. Do these referees understand that people part with hard earnt money to watch football on a Saturday not a publicity hungry small man such as he is.
I didn't think that Eustace took particularly long to leave the pitch, as far as I can remember Cresswell was still on the ground receiving treatment as Eustace left the field.
I just hope the FA don't use JE as a scapegoat for the recent spate of disrespect shown by some of the more high profile players like Ashley Cole or Javier Mascherano.

Problem is , how much confidence do you have in the FA. An extra ban could affect all our remaining matches, and thereby our position at the end of the season. Is Watford such a bad bunch of lads. I don't think so and they don't deserve this. Things have certainly been better in defence since Boofers bought him and Bromby, pity the manager cant get it right with the forwards.

The Mascherano sending off was bound to happen, as he was constantly having a whinge at moaning at the ref - then running 20 or 30 mtrs to get involved in something he had no right to was the final straw. What should have happened was Rafa should have replaced him before it got that far. The Eustace incident is very different, as he did not hold up play, he is not being charged with disrespect to a match official but with taking too long to leave the field. If the FA get this wrong then there should be an avalanche of e-mails heading their way from Watford fans as well as anybody who believes that there is one rule for the top clubs and another for the less fashionable names. Of course I don't believe this, unless the FA find against JE. WFC have never been flavour of the month with the FA or the majority of the press, but surely they must see sense in this case.

Given the level of unpopularity surrounding Watford at the moment, re our style of play etc, one could suggest the FA would be tempted to stick us this further ban in the hope it stops us going up and gracing the Premier League.. or am I just really cynical!

Have just read on the official site that JE's ban has been increased to four matches. Styles - you are a joke!! FA - one rule for one and another rule for the Big Boys. Despicable.

Very disappointing but let’s not over estimate Eustace’s value to the team. Of course he’s done well since arriving and we look more balanced with him in the side, but I don’t think his contribution has been so outstanding that we can expect our season to peter out just because he’s not available for the next four games. Although I’m not a great fan of his, Williamson is a perfectly acceptable short term replacement with the added bonus - as he proved on Saturday - that he seems to have discovered that he can take a free kick. Bangura can also be relied upon to do a job for us.
Of more concern should be the enforced absence of Dorris for the next couple of games – he hasn’t been on the best form lately but he’ll be missed at both ends of the pitch at Hull. If Aidy's going to bring anyone in on loan this week he'd be better advised to bring in a forward who can hold the ball up and who knows roughly where the goal is.

I mentioned taking Gravesen on loan last week, as i saw somewhere that he will be released by Everton at end of the season. a loan, with a plan to sign permanently if we get promotion would be great for us and maybe tempting for him. On the forwards, would like Helgusson back too, but doubt he would come. There must be something wrong with the team when not one of Henderson; Ellington; Johns; Priskin; Hoskins or Kabba posses the attacking threat of Shittu. Watford is becoming a Forwards Graveyard. Next season I expect to see some pruning and refocussing on the attack side. Fair play to Aidy his latest purchases have soughted out the defence.

Outcome all rather predictable I'm afraid.
Styles courts controversy and we are an easy target, so he will be loving it.
But forget the conspiracy theories, the FA are just not that well organised.
Eustace was unfortunate, could've escaped with a booking on another day, he has been superb since arriving from Stoke - great signing by Boothroyd.
However, there is clearly an edge to his game which those who attend matches will have witnessed.
He will be sorely missed but I believe we already have a squad capable of finishing the season on a high, if we can just start knocking a few goals in. Starting with Hull on Saturday, so.........

Are they even going to consider the Cole incident, as he was not reported for his dissent, although many people saw it and it has been widely covered in the Press? The Eustace extended ban will only seem fair if every other similar incident is treated in the same way, and how likely is that to happen?
