An MP visited the town last week to support a mayoral candidate's campaign.

Jo Swinson, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats and MP for East Dunbartonshire, spent a day in Watford last Thursday.

She came to back cllr Peter Taylor in his bid to fill Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill’s shoes when she steps down in May.

During her visit, she recognised the work the Liberal Democrats have undertaken in the area while Mayor Thornill has been in power over the last 16 years.

Ms Swinson said: "I know that Dorothy Thornhill and the Liberal Democrat team in Watford have an impressive record.

“They have turned the town around, focusing on delivering excellent local services, making sure residents get value for money and supporting a growing local economy.

“I'm backing Peter Taylor to be Watford's next mayor as he has the right values and ability to make the town an even better place to live."

Cllr Taylor added: "It was fantastic to have Jo visit us in Watford. She is a very articulate advocate for a fairer society and wants to see people from every background given the chance to succeed.

“Jo recognises the work that we have done locally to improve Watford and our determination to make this an even better place to live.

“If I am elected as the next Mayor of Watford, I want to make sure that this is a town for everyone - supporting people from all walks of life."

Cllr Taylor will stand against Conservative candidate George Jabbour and Labour cllr Jagtar Singh-Dhindsa in Watford’s Mayoral Election on May 3.
