We delve into the personal lives of our Mayoral candidates to find out what has inspired them to go for the role.

This is what Liberal Democrat Peter Taylor has to say...

What makes you qualified to be the next mayor?

I believe that I have the head, heart and guts to make Watford an even better place to live.

I am bringing my family up here and have served as a Watford councillor for many years. I am now deputy mayor and as part of Dorothy Thornhill’s team, I’m responsible for our parks, leisure centres and bin collections.

Can you list your previous jobs over the years?

Assistant director of an education charity, teacher, parliamentary researcher What qualifications did you get at school?

10 GCSEs and 3 A-levels

Which role model/s inspires you?

I was always very impressed by Mo Mowlam – somebody who had very clear values and got things done. She was born in Watford too!

Who are the most important people in your life?

My wife and three children.

What are you reading at the moment?

The Watford Observer, of course. I am also reading Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, which is about intuition.

Who is your favourite musician/band?

When I get to choose the music in our car it is usually Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson or any soul music. My wife always chooses Bon Jovi but we usually end up listening to Roald Dahl stories as this entertains our children.

What would your superpower be?

Bilocation would be helpful.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Helping to raise three children who are happy.

What has been your greatest disappointment?

I was travelling to see my grandmother when she passed away. I wish I had had the chance to talk to her one last time.

What has been your most embarrassing moment in your life?

That would be telling.

What are you most afraid of?

I’m not a fan of heights.

What are your hobbies?

I love spending time with my family, enjoy pub quizzes and like to watch sports. I joined the gym last year but don’t go as often as I should.

What is your best childhood memory?

I have very happy memories of going to the seaside with my sisters and brother. We often went to Wales and have lots of photos of us sunny, golden beaches that are pretty much empty.

How would your friends describe you?

Handsome, friendly, intelligent and modest What will you do next if you do not become the next mayor?

Continue to serve as a Watford councillor and work for an education charity.
