We delve into the personal lives of our Mayoral candidates to find out what has inspired them to go for the role.

This is what Conservative George Jabbour has to say...

What makes you qualified to be the next mayor?

My skills and experiences in engineering, investment and business; my passion for our town and my proven record in making a difference for our community

Can you list your previous jobs over the years?

Since 2009, I have been running my small business, Ethos, which helps public-sector organisations with their investments What qualifications did you get at school?

I hold a number of qualifications, including an engineering degree. I graduated as the top student on the course with the top grades.

What has been your greatest disappointment?

Spending time at university gaining high academic honours at the expense of having more fun. Seriousness should always be leavened with humour.

Which role model/s inspires you?

Engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators. My hero is James Watt, the British inventor who developed the steam engine, which underpinned our industrial revolution.

Who are the most important people in your life?

First of all my parents, and then my global family with whom I keep regular contact.

What are you reading at the moment?

Robert Harris’ Cicero Trilogy; history, drama and great reading!

Who is your favourite musician/band?

David Bowie and Adele. I am also warming to classical music.

What would your superpower be?

Teleportation. Sometimes if I have an early morning meeting in London, I wish I could get from Watford to London instantly, rather than having to take the very crowded trains.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Being selected as the Conservative candidate for Mayor of Watford, fronting a positive campaign and setting up a number of local initiatives to make a difference in our community, such as Watford’s Rubbish Friends, Community Connect, Watford Against Fly-Tipping and Watford Together.

What has been your most embarrassing moment in your life?

Passing out in front of my friends after drinking too much on New Year’s Eve several years ago. The following day I made a New Year’s resolution not to get drunk again.

What are you most afraid of?

Spiders and heights, so you could imagine how terrified I am if I see a spider while I am climbing a ladder.

What are your hobbies?

In addition to dancing and sport, I enjoy going to watch the Hornets. In the summer I am keen on watching cricket and tennis. And I am looking forward to rooting for England in the World Cup.

What is your best childhood memory?

The gathering of my family at Christmas.

How would your friends describe you?

A character!

What will you do next if you do not become the next mayor?

I will continue running my business and making a difference in the community.
