Paedophile found guilty of raping 12-year-old girl in 'horrific reign of abuse'
A paedophile has been found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl in a “horrific reign of abuse”.
Brijeshkumar Barot, 37, of The Broadway, Harrow was convicted of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, 17 May.
The 37-year-old was arrested in July 2015 after the girl and her family reported the abuse to police.
Passer-by 'disgusted' after discovering bags filled with poo hanging from tree
A passer-by was “disgusted” to discover bags filled with poo hanging from a tree.
Isabelle Plasschaert took a snap of the “unsanitary” waste in a field in Abercorn Road, Stanmore, this morning (Wednesday, May 17).
She tweeted: “I am stunned and disgusted.”
Half-marathon to return after 15 year break
A half-marathon is set to return to the borough after a 15 year hiatus.
Harrow Athletics Club have announced that the 13.1 mile race will take place Sunday September 17.
The route will start and finish in the playing fields of Harrow School, in Harrow-on-the-Hill.
Participants will also run past a number of historic landmarks including Headstone Manor, Pinner Park Farm, and the Harrow Recreation Ground, which also holds the weekly 5km parkrun race.
Hundreds of police officers in Harrow to patrol with body-worn cameras
Hundreds of police officers in Harrow will now patrol the streets wearing body-worn cameras in a bid to bring “speedier justice” to victims.
Cameras will be attached to more than 270 officers’ uniforms, although they will not permanently record.
Members of the public will also be told as soon as practical that they are being recorded and a flashing red circle in the centre of the camera and a beeping noise will sound to show its activated.
Lambeth council will end its controversial contract to provide “communications services” to Harrow council.
It said the reason for ending the four-year contract, worth £400,000 a year, after two years is that Lambeth council officers running both the contract and its finances are leaving.
Lambeth Communications – a trading company run by the council’s policy and communications department – operates the contract with six staff seconded to Harrow in outer North West London.
In the financial year 2016/17 the council says LamCo achieved a surplus of £32,000 on the contract.
