Harrow’s 65th mayor has been appointed.

Cllr Margaret Davine was selected at the annual mayor making ceremony last week and was handed the mayor’s chain of office from predecessor Cllr Rekha Shah.

She moved to the borough in 1959, before being elected as a councillor in 1999 and has represented people in Edgware and Roxeth.

She says she has “always fought for what matters to her the most – community and bringing people together”.

Cllr Davine said: “It’s an honour to be appointed as the new Mayor of Harrow. I am proud that I represent a fantastic borough so rich in diversity, and where everyone of all walks of life just get along.

“I look forward to meeting residents and community groups across the borough who help make Harrow a special place.

“Importantly I’ll be using my role to highlight supporting our most vulnerable people. I hope that you will all support my chosen charities for this year.”

Her chosen charities to support include Harrow Women’s Centre, which provides support and help to women who affected by isolation, loneliness or with mental health issues, as well as The Harrow Law Centre, which gives free legal advice to Harrow residents.
