Two men who were moved by the tragedy at Grenfell Tower have organised a special festival to help raise funds for the victims and their families.

John Smart and Dan Hunter, from Harrow, are bringing together up-and-coming talent for the benefit event, which they hope will raise continued awareness of the devastating fire.

‘Grenfest’ will be held at Trinity Bar, in Station Road, Harrow, on August 26 with artists Peaky, Prisim, Charley Brown and Donna Blackburn set to perform. Tickets cost £10.

“We wanted to do a fundraiser inspired by the local community who have come together after the tragedy at Grenfell,” John said.

“It’s so that these artists can get their voices heard and we can raise money for those affected.

“Dan and I went down to the Silent March and you could see the impact it has had on people. We just started chatting to campaigners and people were keen to lend their support.”

The music is scheduled to begin at 7pm and there will also be the opportunity for people to take part in an open mic session.

John explained that those involved in the festival also want to offer more information about how to raise awareness of the ramifications of the blaze, which claimed at least 80 lives.

“We’re looking into doing all we can to address this issue. That could include starting a petition to ensure basic health and safety checks and making sure that tower blocks are fitted with sprinklers,” he said.
