A community group used the feast day of a saint to hold a street festival and bring people together.
Wealdstone Active Community held a St George’s Day festival outside the Holy Trinity Church in Wealdstone, on April 21.
The event ran from 12pm to 3pm.
Her Worshipful The Mayor, Cllr Margaret Davine opened the proceedings which included live band music from Notes from Underground and a tabla player and quartet. There were stalls selling plants and refreshments, and others for woodworking, jewellery, bric-a-brac and face painting.
The Harrow African-Caribbean Association Dance School performed a dance routine, there was a Children’s Corner for play, and the London Fire Brigade paid a visit in their fire engine.
There were also stalls offering a general range of community information.
Deputy chairwoman for Wealdstone Active Community, Hilary Coombes, said: “The aim of
our festival is to foster community spirit and bring people together.
“It’s an opportunity for future initiatives and projects, new partnerships and working arrangements to happen.”
Wealdstone Active Community chairperson, Christine Thomas said Councillor Phillip O'Dell commented on what a “great success” the event had been.
