A park has been given £300,000 by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to preserve a 14th century moat.

Headstone Manor Park has been award the money as part of an initiative to make London the UK’s first National Park City.

Navin Shah, London assembly member for Harrow, welcomed the funding.

He said: “The project will create new wetlands, pond dipping and outdoor learning opportunities.

“This allocation of funding is vital to Harrow as the Headstone Manor Park is a focal point for many of my residents. I look forward to seeing the construction of a new sedimentation pond.’’

A total of £2 million has been given to projects like this around London as part of the initiative to make London the UK’s first National Park City.

The projects include a Silkstream Valley Parks regeneration project in Barnet and a project to restore Albany Park in Enfield.

Commenting on the new funding, Mr Khan, said: “For too many Londoners, nature simply doesn’t feature in their daily lives.

“That’s why we’re aiming to become a National Park City, with more than half of our capital green. Today’s funding will draw even more people into our outstanding parks by making green spaces more attractive and better for the environment.”
