Award winning housing association, Network Homes, is offering an opportunity for local people to Rent, Save and Buy a brand new home in the heart of Harrow town centre, with the launch of the first London Living Rent homes in the area.

Situated on a former hotel site, The Porter Building is an exclusive collection of one and two bedroom apartments and is only the second London Living Rent scheme in London.

London Living Rent is one of three types of genuinely affordable homes launched by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, as part of his affordable homes programme in the capital. Rents are based on a third of average household incomes, giving Londoners the chance to save for a deposit to buy a shared ownership home.

Residents will be able to rent on assured shorthold tenancies of up to 18 months, with the option to renew for a further three years, plus the opportunity to buy shares in the home for up to five years after the launch date of the development.

Designed by MEPK Architects, the 23 new homes at The Porter Building offer generous light and space, alongside contemporary design and finishes. Situated across five floors, the apartments all boast private outdoor space and are perfect for first time buyers.

Homes come with an excellent specification and residents will enjoy five star quality interior design featuring built-in wardrobes, spacious bathrooms and distinctive gloss kitchens. This green development boasts a secure cycle store and disabled parking, with residents encouraged to make use of nearby public transport.

The Porter Building is within easy walking distance of Harrow-on-the-Hill tube station with direct trains into Marylebone, Baker Street, King’s Cross St. Pancras and Liverpool Street on the Metropolitan Line and Chiltern Railways. And seven minutes away is Wembley Park, home to Wembley Stadium, the SSE Arena and London Designer Outlet.

The Porter Building is located right in the centre of Harrow with high street shops at the end of the road. Harrow town centre is a great shopping destination, home to two shopping centres and all the essential amenities, with gyms, restaurants and supermarkets all close by. Residents can enjoy a Hollywood blockbuster or a Bollywood classic at the Vue and Safari cinemas, or for a quieter afternoon can stroll up the hill to see the architectural beauty of Harrow School and its surrounding area.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “The housing crisis is the biggest challenge facing London and I am doing everything with the powers and resources I have to tackle it. I have been honest with Londoners from the start - turning things around will not happen overnight - this is going to be a marathon and not a sprint.

“I’m really pleased to have Network Homes amongst the first housing associations to deliver my new London Living Rent homes, which will help Londoners afford to rent a home in the capital and give them the chance to begin saving to get themselves on the property ladder. I’m looking forward to seeing more Londoners getting the keys for their new homes with money I’ve invested as part of my record-breaking £3.15bn deal with government.”

Vicky Savage, Executive Director of Development at Network Homes, comments: “The new homes at The Porter Building give local people an amazing chance to get a foot onto the housing ladder, with our Rent, Save, Buy opportunity. We are delighted to be working with partners at the GLA on this innovative idea. As part of the Mayor’s London Living Rent product, this scheme recognises not all Londoners have the benefit of the ‘Bank of Mum and Dad’ and therefore struggle combining expensive rents with saving for a home. This product gives residents the support they need to save up for a deposit. We know the importance of quality homes with excellent management services and the difference this makes to people’s lives. Residents here will be able to enjoy the security of a beautiful home in Harrow for years to come.”

Monthly rent for brand new homes at The Porter Building - £807 for a one bedroom apartment and £897 for a two bedroom apartment.
Priority will be given to key workers living or working in the London Borough of Harrow.
