Parkheath staff get soaked

Parkheath joined the thousands of fundraisers for Comic Relief on Friday, March 13, by setting up a set of stocks in Rickmansworth town centre and placing members of their sales and lettings team inside, so the public could drench them in water from wet sponges, at 50p a throw.

At one point, a queue of school children lined up to take turns soaking lettings valuer, Ben Smith, who took it all in his stride. The afternoon rounded off with whole buckets being sold off and a complete saturation for the final captives, Alex and Gary Sewell, Scott McNicholas, Emily Walton, Julia Pennell and Laura Griffiths.

Red Nose Day is a UK-wide fundraising event organised by Comic Relief every two years. Everyone is encouraged to cast inhibitions aside, put on a Red Nose or something funny, to raise money for people across the UK and in Africa, who face terrible injustice or who live in abject poverty.

Two main causes touched the Parkheath team this year. Lettings director Jane Gardner’s mother recently died after suffering with dementia for many years, and Comic Relief have given almost £130,000 to the Alzheimer’s Society in the UK, helping people who suffer with this terrible condition. And lettings manager Abbie McEneaney is due to give birth to her first baby this summer and was horrified to hear about the mortality rate for women giving birth in Africa.

In the UK the statistic is one in 80,000 whereas in Africa one in eight women will die in childbirth. What should be the happiest time of their lives, is one of the scariest.

Comic Relief promise that for every pound they receive from the public, a pound will go to help transform the lives of people living with poverty or social injustice and, so far, £59,187,065 has been raised.

Parkheath raised £371.96 and had fun doing so. Every little penny counts, so if you feel able to help increase that target, donations can still be made by coming into the office with cash, or online.
