Shy picture books, zombie goldfish and kites for penguins – yes, it’s time for the Chorleywood Children’s Literary Festival once more.

The third annual literature festival for kids from the award-winning independent bookshop promises another fantastic line-up of author events and activities for young bookworms and their families.

Author Christine Roberts will be holding a storytime session, in which she’ll read from her beautifully illustrated book The Very Shy Picture Book (9.15am to 10.15am), and then Mo O’Hara, the writer of the My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish series will talk you through the inspiration for her character – it involves bringing her pet goldfish back to life! (10.30am to 11.30am)

Rob Biddulph, the arts director of Observer Magazine and writer of the children’s story Blown Away, will be hosting a story-come-craft session with a number of fun, creative activities including making kites for his character Penguin Blue. The book has been shortlisted for this year’s Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, so this session is one not to be missed (11.45am to 12.45pm).

In the afternoon, it’s time to meet the Gruffalo! Chorleywood Bookshop has been selected as March’s Julia Donaldson Bookshop of the Month, and will be holding a Gruffalo-themed activity session with games, activity sheets and, of course, stories. We’ve heard the Gruffalo himself might even be making an appearance... (2pm to 3pm)

The day finishes up with a Frozen sing-along, in association with The Chorleywood Film Club. Watch the film on a 12ft screen and belt your hearts out along with the ubiquitous Let It Go. Queen Elsa’s coronation will be celebrated in style so go dressed in your best royal finery (5.15pm to 7pm).

As in previous years, there will also be a children’s creative writing competition, on the theme of identity, and two children’s book groups.
