THE JOY of Sex by the aptly named Dr Comfort was the manual of choice back when I was a youth, but I don’t remember much about it bar a few girlish giggles, the slavish correlations between food and fornication (the book was subtitled A Gourmet Guide to Lovemaking and chapter headings included Starters, Main Courses and Sauces & Pickles), plus some not very inspiring photographs of unfeasibly hairy 1970s manhood.
