A fashion student from Edgware has tied up her end-of-year runway show with a fantastic dress made from nothing other than men’s ties.

Tanyah Williams, 20, was among 40 of the College of North West London fashion design students who were involved in the fashion show last week, all of whom not only created the outfits for the runway but also organised and hosted the show – giving them a great insight into putting on and running a fashion industry event.

There were nine fashion collections presented by the students of the School of Arts, and Tanyah produced outfits for two of them – the Shirts and Ties collection and the Final Major Project.

Tanyah is in her final year at the college, having just completed a fashion design Level 3 course. She hopes to go to the University of Arts, London College of Fashion to study a fashion accessories degree.

“I’ve had a great two years at the college and have learnt so much – I couldn’t even sew before I came here!” laughs Tanyah. “When I left school I wasn’t sure of exactly what career I wanted to end up in but this course has allowed me to try a little bit of everything to do with fashion and has made me realise that my real passion is for accessories.

“Doing the fashion show was nerve-wracking but so much fun!”
