Following the success of last year’s Eid celebrations at Watford Palace Theatre, everyone is welcome to come back and celebrate all over again with a new and exciting family-friendly programme, featuring live performance and upbeat entertainment.

Produced in collaboration with volunteers from the local community, this year’s event programme includes Labbayk – a nasheed (Islamic vocal) group based in London, who started singing officially in Islamic events from the year 2004 and have been doing live performances around the world since. The nasheeds compose the music and vocal harmonies with no musical instruments.

Returning after performing at Celebrate Eid 2011, Dreadlockalien tours the UK with his performance poetry and slam sets as well as three plays, Amalgam Jam, Soundclash and Chocolate Wars, continuing to push the boundaries of live literature.

His urban hip-hop dub flow verse delivery of words and concepts addresses social issues such as citizenship, identity, immigration and black British experiences. No steel pan and samosa tokenism here; strictly education before entertainment.

Local beatbox artist Babar Khan, featured in Rifco’s Mummyji Presents at the Palace in 2013, has recently performed at the The Unity of Faiths Festival, also at the Beck Theatre Hayes and Harrow Arts Centre.

There will be a complimentary snack at the end of the event for audiences, as well as a selection of small stalls selling snacks and small goods.

  • Celebrate Eid will take place at Watford Palace Theatre, Clarendon Road, Watford on Sunday, September 7 at 5pm. Details: 01923 225671, watfordpalacetheatre.co.uk
