After being awarded one of the highest accolades by VisitEngland, Bushey Museum is now taking part in the Herts Big Weekend.

The museum, which received the Hidden Gem award and has been declared the best museum in South East England by the tourist board, will be hosting a series of exhibitions, workshops and events over the Big Weekend - March 12-13.

Councillor Brenda Batten, says: “Bushey Museum is such a friendly and welcoming place, with excellent collections and displays of Bushey’s history and our links with great artists, that I encourage people to come visit us during the Big Weekend when there is even more to see and do.”

The Big Weekend events include:

Young Artist in Residence
Queen’s School pupil, 16-year-old Rachel Walford, is the prize winner of the RSPB Richie Richardson Award for her painting of a fox. She will be greeting visitors in the council chamber from 11am to 1pm. March 12

Book Signing
Dianne Payne - the author of Bushey during the Great War - a Village Remembers, will be at the speaking to visitors and signing books from 2pm to 4pm on the ground floor. March 12

Herbal Drinks
Try some 1940s style herbal drinks that were popular during the World War Two from 11am to 1pm in the entrance hall. March 13

1940s Experience
In collaboration with Lincolnfields Centre, the museum are giving visitors the opportunity to jump on to a Second World War jeep and Humvee outside the museum from midday to 2pm. March 13

Lucy Kemp Welch Gallery
From 2pm-4pm, visitors will be able to visit the gallery and find out why certain colours attract your attention at a colour therapy reading with Frances Watkins. March 13

Children’s activities
There will be a Black Beauty themed children’s activities led by Marion Gee in the studio at 11am on both days.

A village trail guided by Dr J Craig Gray highlighting famous Bushey artists will also take place across both days. March 12, 11.30am and March 13, 2.30pm. Meet in the entrance hall The tea-room will be open serving home-made cakes, tea, coffee and selling local organic honey. March 12 and 13, 11am-4pm.
