If you love nothing better than sitting beneath the big screen, watching your favourite film and tucking into a big bucket of salty popcorn, but absolutely hate the idea of spending a glorious summer’s evening indoors in the dark, then you need to get yourself along to Watford’s newly revamped Parade for Watford’s Big Screen, a series of classic movies screened in the great outdoors.

With nine films on the bill, there’s something for everyone, no matter whether you like action, musicals or kids’ movies:

  • Sherlock Holmes (12) Wednesday, July30, 8pm
  • The Italian Job (PG) Thursday, July 31, 8pm
  • Grease (PG) Friday, August 1, 6pm
  • Some Like it Hot (12) Friday, August 1, 8pm
  • Wall-E (U) Saturday, August 2, 4pm
  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes (12) Saturday, August 2, 6pm
  • Mamma Mia! (PG) Saturday, August 2, 8pm
  • The Lego Movie (U) Sunday, August 3, 4pm

All films will be screened in the events area at the top of the pond and there will be a designated prime viewing area, but you can also watch from a variety of locations on the Parade. No booking is required, just turn up with your own rugs, cushions and camping chairs. You can also take along your own food (not forgetting to take all your rubbish with you when you leave) and you can buy drinks from the bars lining the Parade.

Continuing the season of Watford’s BIG Events, a programme of outdoor activities and performances designed to show off the town centre’s spanking new Parade, Watford’s Big Screen is brought to you by Watford Film Society and Watford Palace Theatre.

  • Watford’s Big Screen takes place on The Parade, High Street, Watford, from Wednesday, July 30 to Sunday, August 3, at various times. Details: 01923 225671, watfordpalacetheatre.co.uk
