Fine artist selected for Draw 12
Self-taught pen and ink artist Denise Butler has been selected for DRAW 12, the 91st Annual Open Exhibition of the Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA). The only national art society dedicated exclusively to drawing, the SGFA was established in 1919 to promote good drawing and draughtsmanship.
Denise’s work is incredibly precise with every brick and leaf rendered in exacting detail.
“Ink is a very unforgiving medium and there is little room for error but this is part of the challenge that I love,” comments Denise, who is based in Watford. “I particularly like painting architecture and landscapes, especially trees.”
This year’s exhibition attracted submissions from artists across the UK. More than 200 works of art by both members and non-members made the final selection. Traditional and contemporary drawing techniques will be on display in a wide range of sizes and media: from egg tempera and aquatint to charcoal and sgraffito.
Society members will give free talks and demonstrations during the exhibition, which runs from October 1-13 at the Menier Gallery in London. Denise’s work is also on display at The Palace Green Gallery, Hatfield House and she will be exhibiting in the Harlequin gallery in November.
