The smash hit Broadway, West End and film musical Footloose is coming to the local stage in October, when Elstree Productions Theatre Company presents the toe-tapping, hit-filled show at the Radlett Centre.

Packed with fantastic songs and high energy dance routines, Footloose explodes on to the stage with classic anthems including Holding Out For A Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For the Boy and, of course, the title song Footloose.

This tale of teen rebellion and repression revolves around city boy Ren, who moves from Chicago to a small town in the American West. He has to face a major culture shock and finds it very hard to fit in and face the harsh taboos inflicted by the local minister, who has made rock music and dancing illegal. Ren sets out to bring dance back to the heart of a town held back by the memory of a major tragedy.

This is the latest show in a long line-up of hit musicals presented by Elstree Productions at the Radlett Centre, which have included Cabaret, Summer Holiday, A Slice of Saturday Night, Bugsy Malone, Return to the Forbidden Planet and last year’s popular 1920’s show The Boy Friend.

Making her directorial debut at the Radlett Centre is Charlotte McGrath. “I am delighted to have been asked to direct Footloose as it is one of my favourite shows. It has been a delight to work with musical director Graham Nicholls and choreographer Nikki Hurley. The cast have worked so hard and I know that the audience are in for a great night.”

  • Footloose is at the Radlett Cenre, Aldenham Avenue, Radlett from Wednesday, October 10 to Saturday, October 13 at 7.45pm. Details: 01923 859291, www.radlettcentre.co.uk
