Watford artist and comic creator Jessica Martin has taken her life-long passion for the movies and made her very first solo exhibition out of it.
Jessica Martin’s Picture Palace is a collection of her large-scale digital portraits on canvas, done in various styles including pop art, in ink and colour.
“Hollywood movies have seeped into our collective cultural consciousness and I’m tapping into that appeal,“ says Jessica, who is working on her first full-length graphic novel.
“I think the beautiful lighting of those old black and white films was done with the same skill as the old masters observing ‘chiaroscuro’ and that aesthetic had such a mesmerising effect.“
