Cultural activities are thriving in Bushey as the village prepares for its annual festival.
Now in its 27th year, the Bushey Festival runs from July 3 to 18 and is a community event, run entirely by volunteers, offering a huge array of events to suit all ages.
Over the years, the popularity of the festival has gone from strength to strength with some events already sold out, such as the Help For Heroes jazz night at Bushey Country Club featuring jazz singer Barbara Jay.
Barbara has performed at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s and with Kenny Ball, Benny Goodman and Humphrey Lyttleton. In 1993 she devised the Ella Fitzgerald Songbook Show and more recently has been singing at the Pizza Express Jazz Club and at local residential care homes.
Barbara tells me: “Having been a Bushey resident for the past 45 years, I am pleased to be giving something back by singing at this festival.
“I sincerely hope that I can help to gain more support for Help For Heroes as it is a cause very dear to my heart.”
