Scenes of Watford and beyond go on display at the town’s two Space2 Galleries from this Thursday, running until the end of the month.

At Watford Town Hall Customer Service Centre on Hempstead Road, visitors can see a selection of paintings and photographs by Rickmansworth-based artist Geoff Shaw.

Geoff attended life drawing classes at the former Harrow Arts School and worked as a commercial artist for 30 years.

More recently, he was artist in residence at Bushey Meads School and has been working as an art instructor at Chessbrook School for the past four years. His projects also include workshops at Watford Museum and the V&A.

“I try to use lots of different techniques in my workshops before I go into primal painting,” says Geoff. “If you suddenly put a canvas in front of someone it can be quite daunting; its better to explore different materials first.”

Over at Watford Museum, there’s an exhibition of work by Watford-based artist Gordon Hales, who passed away in 1997.

Gordon enjoyed painting dramatic seascapes, the Thames and the streets of London, as well as more local landmarks.
