Autumn art show at the Harlequin Shopping Centre

The autumn exhibition of Watford Area Arts Forum is once again a riot of colour and technique. The show, which runs until November 20 includes works by Bushey artist Trulla Hadjigeorgiou, who enjoys painting local scenes, particularly the Attenborough Fields, Hertfordshire’s pubs, restaurants and houses using oil, acrylic and watercolours.

A lot of members have taken up art more seriously since retirement.

Helga Durbin began to paint when she retired from a scientific career in cancer research. Watercolour is her main love but she also works in oil and pastel and has also exhibited at Watford and Bushey Arts Society. Equestrian artist Evelyn Row from Hemel Hempstead is largely self-taught. She took up painting seriously about six years ago, after giving up full-time work.

“I work in oils and paint a wide range of subjects including landscapes, animals and portraits. I particularly love to do equestrian subjects and recently held an exhibition with an equestrian theme on the Isle of Wight.“ On display will be a wide variety of watercolours, oils, photographs and ceramics revealing the diversity of subjects, mediums and characters within WAAF.

Watford photographer Don Langstone will also be exhibiting his latest pictures.

“Apart from a schoolboy interest in messing about with lights and photographic chemicals in dark rooms, I didn’t really take up photography until after I stopped working full-time,“ says Don. “In mid 2003, I joined Watford Camera Club, I was inspired by the work of other club members and club competitions, so I tried to do better, I eventually achieved my LRPS in February 2009. As a member of WAAF, I enjoy seeing the work of other artists as I find it inspiring, it also gives me a source of fresh ideas.“ <>Watford Area Arts Forum’s autumn exhibition runs until November 20 at the Harlequin Centre, Upper Gallery. Open times Monday-Saturday, 10am-6pm, Sunday 11am-5pm. Admission is free.
