5:00pm Thursday 1st December 2011 in Exhibitions
Artwork by members of the Disability Recreation Unity Movement (DRUM) is now showing at Watford Town Hall until the end of December.
The pieces in the current Drum Art Exhibition are inspired by the Chinese Year of the Dragon and the Orient, and feature dragons, geishas, willow patterns, temples and pagodas.
The show is part of an ongoing project and the members are currently working on their own versions of the famous Terracotta Warriors. The entire project will be on display at DRUM’s Parkgate Community Centre at the end of January.
DRUM is an organisation that provides day services and activities to adults with physical and/or sensory disabilities, often caused by accidents or illness, and their carers.
Activities members engage in include art, creative crafts, sculpture, yoga, dance, drama, indoor bowls, gardening and angling. The group also organises regular day trips, outings and social events.
Calendars featuring some of the artwork from the exhibition, and a selection of Christmas cards are available to buy from the charity’s website including a picture of Penguins by late DRUM member Ernie Smith. All proceeds will help DRUM fund future art projects, equipment and art materials.
The exhibition is at the Town Hall Customer Service Centre, Town Hall, Watford until Saturday, December 31, Monday-Friday 8.30am-5.30pm. Details: 01923 232297, www.drum.btck.co.uk
