Local folk club Silencio has pulled out all the stops for its appearance at this year’s Watford Live! festival and will have ten unplugged artists performing.

Top of the bill will be the gifted and unique Jasmine Rodgers, daughter of Paul Rodgers, frontman of the legendary ‘70s band Free and Bad Company.

Jasmine started off listening to folk artists but was also surrounded by her parent’s blues and soul collections. The musical gene was obviously passed down from her father as Jasmine started focusing on writing songs from a young age.

The folk singer says: “Most of my songs are acoustic and slightly dark in nature.“

Since then she has been gigging around the country in venues such as The Bedford, Vibe Bar, and Barfly in Camden.

She has even graced the Royal Albert Hall stage while supporting her father.

This year she has also supported Scott Matthews at the Bull Theatre in Barnet.

Alongside her at the gig at Silencio will be the hot young jazz singer-songwriter and guitarist Bushey Ije Amaechi.

She is mainly influenced by African, jazz, folk and acoustic music and has performed in various venues across Hertfordshire and the UK including the Royal Albert Hall and Rhythms of the World.

Watford musician Skopje will also be playing at the event. The one-man-band describes his musical stylings as “haunting, ethereal, lyrically abstract, and folk noir”, and has written two solo songs and released an album in 2008.

Another one of Watford’s stars, Alan Ronald, Hertfordshire’s very own funnyman of Salmon on the Mount comedy night fame, will be cracking some jokes and hopefully bringing laughter to the party too.

Other artists set to perform include Corolla, Leonaheart, Emma McGrath, Martin Olyett, Cement Matters, and Robert Sunday.
