Celebrating International Women’s Day, the Hertfordshire-based female-run boutique label, Folkstock Records, has released a new CD, The F Spot Femme Fatales, and it has already been featured in the Evening Standard, BBC 6 Music’s 6 show and BBC Radio 2.

Produced by 19-year-old Lauren Deakin Davies, the album features the talented voices from female artists in Hertfordshire, including Hemel Hempstead’s up-and-coming musician Minnie Birch, Kings Langley’s Daria Kulesh, Fay Brotherhood from Welwyn Garden City and Kelly Oliver from Stevenage.

The album aims to highlight the increasing imbalance between successful men and women in the music industry and to also put much needed focus on budding local talent.

Also featuring on this sensual and feminine CD are Kaity Rae, Peggy Seeger, Roxanna de Bastion, Zoe Wren and Martina Florance and BBC Two Folk award-nominee Maz O’Conner Folkstock’s previous release, Femme Fatales of Folk, received rave reviews, proving it to be a staple in Hertfordshire’s folk music scene.

Helen Meissner, founder of Folkstock Arts Foundation, says: “The Hertfordshire solo males seem to be doing rather well – James Bay, George Ezra and Sam Smith to name three, but we want to fly the flag for the girls!”

A true folk gem, not just for women, but for anyone who appreciates home-grown talent.
