Performers from Electric Umbrella, the Watford-based music project for adults with learning disabilities, are busy putting the final touches to their yearly club night.

The show is the culmination of a four-week-long tour in which Electric Umbrella’s 50 members performed their production, packed with singing, dancing and music, around the county’s day centres.

This year the club night is extra-special, as the group was threatened with instability when its funding from Three Rivers District Council came to an end in 2014. Thanks to the generosity of public donations, Electric Umbrella has been able to continue running its weekly sessions in Watford and Berkhamsted.

Tom Billington, professional musician from Watford who came up with the idea for Electric Umbrella, says: “We have run 19 weeks of weekly sessions, which have been brilliantly busy and full of joy and hilarity. We have been writing songs, dancing, playing instruments, making magic and it’s all going to get put into our show.”

Electric Umbrella is currently in the process of becoming a registered charity, and could potentially expand to Luton, St Albans and Hitchin.
